Elijah thought he was the only prophet left in Israel. Compared with the 450 prophets of Baal, naturally it seemed like a mismatch. However in the boldness of the Holy Spirit, he challenged them to a contest to prove whose god was the true God. He even mocked and taunted them in their cermonies. At the evening sacrifice, God answered with fire, and the peoples’ response was, “The Lord—he is God! Yes, the Lord is God!” (1Kings 18:39) Have you wondered where that power has gone? Can we see it today? In Acts 11, we read that “The power of the Lord was with them (the believers who went to Antioch), and a large number of these Gentiles believed and turned to the Lord.” Let’s carry that same power to our generation! “We also pray that you will be strengthened with all his glorious power so you will have all the endurance and patience you need.” Colossians 1:11
